 Until now we have discussed about many exploits and frauds that can be present in the today's cyber world. So by this time many of you got a question how much extent you can rely on the net centers.

Let me suggest you the following tips for your safety:-

If you are planning to plug in your pen drive at a public place or a different system then first read our article on protecting the pen drive from viruses (right click and open in new window/tab)

Before you start surfing in the public system go to internet options and delete cookies, history and temporary internet files (found in internet explorer tools menu)

Now if you are planning to do sensitive transactions then first go to the any of the following links and do a online anti-virus scan

Dont neglect this step thinking that its a time waste coz security is more important
These online scanner will search for viruses and even key loggers but you have to make sure that there is no hardware key logger in that system by looking at the cpu back panel

There is a chance of spoofing in a net center, by changing some simple system settings in the computer one can easily redirect you to a fake page so beware of phishing

If you are planning to use credit card never hand it over to any person in the net center, just enter the information all by yourself and do not allow any body to see it.

Dont allow anybody to watch your activity over your shoulder, if some one is doing so then simply ask him not to stare at your system.

 

Turn off remote desktop in the system which you are using (right click on my computer-properties-remote-remove tick marks on both items and click ok)

If you are a advanced user then use process explorer to check for suspicious programs running the system.                             
While logging into any site check whether remember me or remember password option is turned on or not, if turned on then just simply deselect it
Finally i suggest if you want to go to net centers then give preference to the branded one just like Reliance web world and Sify in case of India (even their tariff rates also came down)

Now the last step go to internet options and delete cookies, history and temporary internet files (found in internet explorer tools menu) this will delete you activity on the system.
