SNIFFING
A sniffer or packet analyzer or a network analyzer is a software program or hardware which can log/analyze/Captures the information over a network traffic.
Sniffers are originally made to maintain and monitor information on a network. Some companies write sniffer programs to detect network problem. But there are malicious programs used by hackers to capture information over a network these are also called underground sniffers. when installed in a router the sniffer can capture almost any data passing through the network like passwords, credit card numbers etc ..
