Many of got used to IM like yahoo/live messenger, and social networking sites like orkut, facebook etc.

But do your ever wonder how much secured you are at those places ??
Many of you are almost insecure and can be attacked easily in those places, so let me suggest you few tips and trick for safety.

First and foremost is donot click on any suspicious link even if it sent by your friends, if it is sent by your friend then first get a confirmation from him and then open.

Secondly dont login from unofficial and third party sites, use only the official websites.

Instant messengers:-

Its easy for any one to trace your Ip and location while chatting you through messengers like yahoo, skype etc.
So preferably login from web based messengers like http://webmessenger.yahoo.com/ or you can chat right from your mail box (in yahoo and gmail u can directly chat from the inbox of your e-mail)

If you use normal messenger then stay in invisible mode

Dont add unknown people in your messenger list

Dont accept any files from strangers, they may contain viruses

Avoid giving personal information to strangers (u can give fake details or modified details)

Dont respond to spam/advertisements messages, if you get one then simply pres report spam option.

keep your firewall always on when chatting from normal software based messengers

Social networking sites:-

Avoid posting your personal and sensitive data in your profile

Especially for girls:-Never upload any photo of your or your friends to any of the online album also dont keep your photo as display picture.
Even boys also dont upload any of your relative/girlfriends pics into the online albums and never think that they cannot be copied, no online album is secured

Dont run any java scripts and most importantly those grease monkey scripts unless u are a advanced user and well known abt them

Beware of phishing and xss and cookie stealing in social networking sites
Dont add unknown people to your account
If you want to interact with strangers then you also create a fake account.

Dont try to install skins/themes which you got from unofficial sources.
